Give a local child a home
Councils across the North East are joining together for the first time to combat the rising number of children in care in the region by encouraging more people to consider fostering.
Eight local authorities from across the region have joined forces to produce the first North East regional ad which is targeted at those seeking care work roles. The joint campaign comes at a time when the Fostering Network estimates that 400 new foster families need to be found in the North East over the next 12 months to avoid a crisis in foster care in the region.
The eight councils are pooling resources on region wide media with the aim of attracting more people to the professional role of fostering, while driving home the message that there is no ‘typical’ foster carer. Foster carers are needed:
– for all ages of children, especially teenagers
– for long and short term placements
– to keep brothers and sisters together
The councils are seeking carers from all different communities and backgrounds to meet the varied needs of our children and young people across the North East. They are urging people to come forward and ask questions, rather than thinking that they would not be eligible to foster.
The eight councils are:
Darlington
Gateshead
Middlesbrough
North Tyneside
Redcar and Cleveland
South Tyneside
Stockton
Northumberland
