By Headmasters

A job as a hairdresser can often be seen as ‘just a job’ but it really can offer a very rewarding career we caught up with one of our Franchisee owners who proves that it is never too late to make a career swap and that hairdressing can offer more than just standing behind the chair. Sadia Majid is Franchise Owner of two salons within the highly successful Headmasters salon group.

Q Why did you choose to work for Headmasters and what was your first job there?
A- I chose to join Headmasters at the age of 35 because of the exciting and career changing opportunities they had to offer. Starting my career as an apprentice I was very clear of my goals and ambitions, and I would like to thank Headmasters for investing in me at such a late age and supporting me throughout this journey.

Q What job training have you had at Headmasters to help further your career?
A- I started my apprenticeship at Headmasters Chiswick in December 2015. Along the way I was offered several courses that helped me upgrade my hairdressing skills, and so I seized the opportunity to work my way up to where I was able to do their accredited Management Course. After which I became the Manager at Chiswick, I also achieved the L’Oréal colour specialist accreditation, which is revered as the best colour training in the UK.

Q Describe your job role now in brief?
3- Today I am a proud franchisee of two Headmasters salons. Headmasters Chiswick and Headmasters Staines. I am managing a team of 23 hardworking and extremely passionate group of hairdressers. I also still work as a stylist to look after my clients, running busy columns between both salons as this is what I love doing, but also managing the team, and looking after the financials, recruiting, training and marketing for both salons.

Q: What do you find challenging about your role?
4- Encouraging people into the industry is challenging. Especially when it comes to hiring apprentices, which recently has become more of a struggle now, hairdressing has never been seen as a great career path, but it really can be if you are prepared to work hard and challenge yourself. Headmasters works very hard to promote the industry and has a great apprenticeship scheme and
opportunities for stylists of all levels, receptionists, booking centre – as well as back-office support staff.

Q: What do you enjoy most about your role?
5- I feel like professionally I am living my dream. Having two salons with Headmasters has given me the opportunity to run my own businesses. Hairdressing is a very rewarding career and each day is different. We get to meet clients from different walks of life every day. All of them have different stories to share which makes every day a different experience, and as everyone knows, we hairdressers we are so much more! We are confidants, counsellors, and friends to our clients and lucky enough to share some of their amazing life moments.
